4 Days Serengeti Migration Safari Itinerary

Your safari begins with an early morning pickup from your Arusha hotel. Your guide briefs you on the days ahead as you travel west through the fertile highlands, stopping at a local market to experience everyday Tanzanian life. You ascend through misty forest to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, with your first breathtaking view of the crater rim at over 2,300 metres. Afternoon game viewing along the rim is possible, and as the sun sets over the caldera, you settle into your crater-rim camp or lodge for a hot dinner under an extraordinary canopy of stars. Tonight the Serengeti awaits.

This is the heart of your safari — a full day dedicated entirely to the Serengeti and the migration spectacle. You depart before sunrise for golden-hour game drives when predators are most active and the light is extraordinary for photography. Between July and October, your guide positions the vehicle at key Mara River crossing points, where the drama of thousands of wildebeest plunging into crocodile-filled waters unfolds in raw, unforgettable scenes. Outside crossing season, the calving grounds (January–March) offer lion hunts, cheetah sprints, and the sight of thousands of newborn wildebeest within hours of birth. A bush picnic lunch keeps you on the plains all day, maximising every moment. Late afternoon drives often produce leopard sightings as the cats descend from their daytime resting trees.

Your final morning begins before breakfast with one last sunrise drive across the Serengeti — a quiet, golden hour that often delivers the most intimate wildlife encounters of the entire trip. After a camp breakfast, you begin the return journey eastward, re-crossing the Ngorongoro Conservation Area with its sweeping crater views, and continuing through the highlands back to Arusha.
